Inside My Airbnb Life in the Dominican Republic
Quick Tips for Booking Airbnb in the DR
Booking an Airbnb in the Dominican Republic can be a smooth process if you know what to look for. Here are a few tips I’ve learned along the way that can make your experience easier (and way more enjoyable):
1. Always check for Wi-Fi speed in the listing or reviews.
If you work online or rely on a solid internet connection, this is non negotiable. Some listings don’t list exact speeds, so I always message the host to ask or check recent reviews to see if others mention it.
2. Pay attention to electricity policies.
In some areas, especially beach towns, electricity isn’t always included or may have daily limits (very common so read the reviews). Double-check the listing or ask the host upfront so there are no surprises later.
3. Filter for “Entire Place” and look for gated or secure buildings.
If you want privacy and peace of mind, filtering your search helps. In places like Santo Domingo or Punta Cana, many of the best stays are in buildings with 24/7 security, doormen, or keycode access.
4. Read the reviews especially recent ones/new host.
Hosts may update their spaces or change policies, so recent reviews are your best insight into what the stay is actually like right now. Like, included appliances; ac in the unit, internet, electricity etc.
5. Don’t be afraid to negotiate for longer stays.
If you’re staying for a few weeks or longer, many hosts are open to offering discounts. Just send a polite message and ask it never hurts! Or even to extend, I have done this many times, I planned on staying only a few days and that turned into weeks then months LOL. Just ask the host.
